Who is Tanu?
Hi, I’m Tanu, but some of you already know that. If not then, hi I’m Tanu! I am the second half to TheNobles group. I go by Tanu due to my persona’s name. Tanu is short for Tanuki, which was the name of my late beloved cat. I got Tanu in her memory. Wow, this is starting off sad…
When I was a kid I really looked up to my sister, Drew, for artistic inspiration. Drew was/is a fantastic artist and I really wanted to be like her when I grew up. It wasn’t until later I found that I also took after my brother, Chad, with Youtube. My siblings were always a big inspiration to me. I am the youngest child and always wanted to hang out and do things with them. You know, like most annoying younger siblings do. My parents were also very supportive of art in the family. I believe that this also really helped me be able to enjoy what I do so much.
My earliest memories of doodling in class was about 5th grade, but really didn’t get into drawing until 6th grade. Then I got Diabetes. I know, what a twist. Becoming diabetic was a huge change as you can imagine. I currently have Type 1 Diabetes which is where I am dependent on Insulin. I can still live a very normal life, just with more monitoring of my blood sugar levels. But why am I getting into this in an art bio? Well because becoming diabetic actually helped me meet my best friend.
In 7th grade I met Chinchi in art class. I noticed they were drawing and I really admired their attention to detail and style. I was drawing weird furry hybrids. We got to talking about each other’s styles and became really close. During the next year or so they found out about their own medical issues and we sort of bonded over our illnesses. Kept an eye out for each other. During this time Chinchi also introduced me to Cosplaying and Anime Conventions. The love of our hobbies started young. Oh and I guess I should mention how into Naruto we were. I developed more of a human style during that time.
Going into high school we fell head over heels in love with Black Butler. We even cosplayed it for 5 years before doing anything else. During that time I tried to develop more detail into my artwork. Much like how Black Butler is styled. I also found my love for photography and editing photos.
High School was the best and worst times of my life. On one hand it was the start of Chinchi’s and my dating relationship. Poor guy tried so hard to confess to me during all those times, but I was romantically oblivious as heck. In the end I could never be happier with Chinchi. They are my everything. But on the other hand it was the stress of, what are you going to do with your life after High School?
Probably the most stressful part of my life. I really didn’t have plans of what I wanted to be. I knew my options, but they didn’t appeal to me anymore. My parents wanted me to go to college, and I did too but I wanted to focus on something with Chinchi. Originally I had wanted to go to an art school like my sister, but I didn’t believe that, that was the style I wanted. Chinchi had always talked about wanted to be a director, and looking towards a 2D animation degree. I had always wanted to learn animation so after graduation in 2012 I went with that too.
Honestly the first couple of years out of high school was a bunch of wondering around not knowing what I was doing. I had a degree plan I was working towards and a job, but life wasn’t laid out like I thought it would be. They never really teach you that in high school. Heck they never really teach you basic life stuff; like taxes.
Anyhow, it wasn’t until about 2016 when Undertale came out that things started to pick up again. Undertale opened up a whole new outlook on life. It wasn’t like Naruto and Black Butler where it helped improve my art. Instead it improved my views of the world. I don’t really know how to explain it, but it helped. It helped me and Chinchi alike. If I’m relating this back to art, honestly I’ve seen my art improve the most since Undertale. Don’t know why, but everything just sort of ‘clicked’.
As some of you know we run a YouTube channel. We’ve had it for a while now, but it’s begun to pick up in the last couple of years. It’s really provided a lovely outlet for Chinchi and I to show our craft and what we love. Honestly I’ve now turned my attention to wanted to do it as my occupation. I can do all the things I love with the person I love. As an artist, it is truly a dream.
I found that art really helped me in my life. From when I was small to where I am now. I am now engaged to Chinchi, and am working towards a goal in my life that is worth something to me. Art comes in many forms, and it speaks to people differently.
I guess what I’m also saying is thank you for letting me do some art for you too, so that maybe it’ll make your day brighter. Like it made my life.
